Education Local infant until

Craft
basket and hamper making.
But
the rewards were just too poor. Then it was on to another local industry at the
next village Croston, this was piece work you got paid for what you made
the more bricks you made the better the wage, and at seventeen years of age
you have a great deal of energy for that type of work. But all things come to an
end and we just tried a bit too hard to get more money and were promptly sent up
the road. Now for a complete change of employment I went to the then small town
of Standish and into a factory which made
57 Varieties of soup
but
again the money was very poor but the work very good. By this time I was a
married man bringing up a family, we start young in Mawdesley 19 for me 17 for
my wife. Now I got into the work that would last me 16 years of seven days a
week work,
Breeding
and
Fattening Pigs,
this lasted until the British pig farming declined, and has never recovered to
this day. After being made redundant from the farm I tried working for my self
which was quite rewarding with a big demand for my gardening, building and odd
job skills.
